Police in Ogun State, Onipanu Division, Ado Odo/Ota Local Government, on Thursday arrested two fake revenue collectors along Agbara Road, who were forcefully demanding waybills from tanker drivers and extorting money from them in the process.
The suspects were Rasheed Sholanke and Lukman Adebesin.
The suspects were arrested when someone gave a call to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Onipanu Division, informing him of the illegal activities of the duo along the road.
According to the statement issued to Punch by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, officers were dispatched to the scene where the suspects were arrested with a single-barrel gun and a fake police warrant card.
Adejobi said, “The Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, has directed that the matter be properly investigated and the suspects be charged to court so as to serve as a deterrent to other touts or criminals who pretend as revenue collectors on the highway to desist henceforth or the long arm of the law will catch up with them.”
